Onsen for All FAQ
When should I plan to arrive for my appointment?
We advise that you plan to arrive 30 minutes ahead of your scheduled appointment to allow time to step out of your everyday life, put on your robe and slippers, enjoy the beautiful ambiance, and calmly prepare for a wonderful experience. For your first visit please also allow extra time to fill out a health history form.
What if I’m late?
A late arrival means your treatment time will be reduced so that the next guest will not be delayed. Payment for the full treatment is expected.
How do I decide which treatments to book?
Our receptionist will be glad to help you choose treatments to meet your needs, interests, time constraints and other considerations. Our Guest Attendants and practitioners can also provide information on our services.
What if I have special health considerations?
Please notify the receptionist before booking your treatments if you have high blood pressure, allergies, other physical ailments or disabilities, or if you are pregnant. In some cases it may be necessary for you to get your doctor’s permission to receive a treatment or have a soak. You also will be asked to complete a brief medical questionnaire when you arrive the first time, so that we can provide the most helpful, positive experience for you.
I'm pregnant. Can I still have spa services?
We welcome expectant mothers! Please inform the front desk and your service providers if you are pregnant so we can customize the service for you and your baby.
Are there any age restrictions?
Young guests are welcome at the spa. A parent or guardian must sign for guests under 18 who are receiving services, and a parent or guardian is welcome to observe the massage. Because your time at the spa is intended to be a relaxing experience, we ask that an adult accompany guests under the age of 15 for the duration of their stay at the spa.
Should I eat before or after my treatment(s)?
Eating lightly before your treatment or soak is a good idea to help you relax and enjoy your session. Save the full lunch or dinner for afterwards.
What is deep tissue massage?
Deep tissue massage focuses on relieving pain and improving circulation in areas with chronic tension. This is especially helpful for tight shoulders, tense lower backs and stiff necks. Many people experience some discomfort during the massage as deeper pressure is necessary to address this kind of tension. After your massage, you may enjoy relief from tension-related pain and greater range of motion.
What is hot stone massage?
Hot stone massage is deeply relaxing to the mind and body. Your therapist will place water-warmed stones on your body. The heat softens tense areas while your therapist massages areas not being treated by the stones. Later, the stones will be removed and the warmed areas massaged.
May I request a specific Service provider?
Yes, of course, but please be aware that not all therapists are available at all times. We make every effort to match your needs and preferences with a practitioner who offers the type of work you prefer.
Can I specify the gender of my Service provider?
We will strive to accommodate your gender preference. Please note that this may affect the availability of your service.
What will I wear during my treatments?
Reiki, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Reflexology and Shiatsu are performed over clothing. Most other massage and body treatments are enjoyed without clothing. Undergarments may be worn if preferred. Please wear what is most comfortable for you. All of our therapists are trained to drape sheets discreetly throughout treatments. Your privacy and modesty are respected at all times.
May I talk during my treatment?
For most people, the greatest benefits from massage and body therapies are derived without conversation. This allows you to fully connect with the sensations in your body and to gently let go of tension and stress throughout the experience. However, we encourage all our guests to provide feedback regarding room temperature, the amount of massage pressure, or the volume of the music...we will gladly accommodate you.
Do I have to wear a bathing suit in the hot tubs and sauna?
Bathing suits are generally required in the Communal tub and appropriate toweling in the sauna. In the Women’s, Men’s and Private tubs, bathing suits are optional. Disposable bathing suits for men, women and children are available for purchase at the reception desk in case you forget to bring your own.
How long may I soak?
The recommended amount of time for hot tub soaking is 30 minutes. Please cool off for several minutes before returning for another soak.
What about my jewelry and valuables?
Please leave these items at home or lock them in your locker. Onsen for All does not assume any liability for personal items.
Do you offer group or special event bookings?
Yes! Please speak with our staff about bringing your group or event of 5 or more to Onsen for All. We will be happy to create a special experience for you!
What form of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, cash, and traveler's checks.
Are gratuities included?
Gratuities are not included in the prices of our services. Gratuities are not required but are accepted. The normal gratuity is 18% per service.
Are all services taxable?
Massage, bodywork and retail are subject to New Jersey’s 7% sales tax. However, if you have a note or prescription from a doctor of medicine, chiropractic, dentistry or psychiatry stating that you need these services, your treatment may be exempt from sales tax. Classes and workshops are not subject to sales tax.
What is your cancellation policy?
All reservations are held with a valid credit card. Appointments and classes should be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. A 100% cancellation penalty will be charged for appointments and classes cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice.
